Moldova subscribed to Special Data Dissemination Standard /SDDS/ of the International Monetary Fund /IMF/, the general manager of the National Bureau of Statistics /BNS/, Vitalie Valcov, and IMF representative in Moldova, Johan Mathisen, announced about this on Wednesday at a press conference.
SDDS subscribing includes monthly editing of economic data on Moldova in the IMF Informative Bulletin on Data Dissemination Standards. The information can be accessed on IMF website http:/dsbb.imf.org/aplication/web/dsbbhome, being doubled by BNS page.
According to Vitalie Valcov, SDDS aims at increasing the availability, integrity and quality of statistics in economic and financial matters. Moldova’s adhesion to this system will provide the country with a higher credibility on international market and, as result, will lead to investments growth.
Johan Mathisen mentioned that SDDS was created as result of financial crisis in ‘90, moment that marked the incapacity of market businessmen to evaluate the real economic situation. SDDS standards were drafted in order to contribute to respect and facilitate the implementation of healthy macroeconomic policies, making more efficient the financial markets and taking appropriate decisions on investments.
IMF representative in Moldova appreciated Moldova’s subscribing to SDDS as „important step” and congratulated country’s government. According to the official, even the decision was voluntarily taken, it supposes accepting and respect of IMF standards on practices applied for economic data dissemination.
Appreciating the way of SDDS subscribing will involve presentation of objective statistic data by Moldovan part, Johan Mathisen underline that there exists a broad system of data disseminating, as well as a clear method of their selection. Reports of both IMF missions, which visited the country in June and November 2005, confirm the fact that Moldova complies with made requirements, even there is still much to do. Reason for which many recommendations were made that have to be taken into account, IMF representative underscored.
In February 2003, Moldova was subscribed to General Data Dissemination System. On 2 May 2006, it became the 63-rd state of those 184 IMF member states joining SDDS.
