The national rugby squad of Moldova suffered the fourth consecutive defeat in the Trophy Division of the European Championship. Moldova lost to Poland 3-15 in Anenii Noi, IPN reports.

The beginning of the match belonged to Moldova, which was two times close to transforming tries. Sergiu Motoc’s pupils scored from a penalty through Alexandru Ungureanu, but this was annulled by referees.

The Polish players profited from a mismatch in Moldova’s defense and scored the first try of the match through Grzegorz Sczepanski. The guests’ top scorer of the current qualifying round Wojciech Piotrowicz brought another two goals and the score became 0-7.

The 19-year-old player Ion Constantin brought back hope to Moldova after scoring from a penalty kick. But Piotrowicz did the same. In the second half, Moldova was unable to recover. The Polish team won by 15-3.

With only one victory won in the current qualifying competition, against Ukraine 54-15, Moldova slipped to the fifth place in the group after losing to the top three ranked teams away, Portugal, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Moldova’s lineup didn’t include the team’s leaders Vadim Cobalas, Oleg Prepelita and brothers Dumitru and Victor Arhip. These couldn’t play for different reasons.
