Moldova requests European Commission a mandate for starting talks on visa regime facilitation

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova solicited the support of the European Commission (EC) for continuing the dialogue on this issue.
According to a press-release of MAEIE, on June 7, in Brussels, the first discussion round took place between the experts of Moldova and EC regarding the visa regime for Moldovan citizens. Within the meeting were presented the last evolutions in the implementation process of the Moldova-EU Action Plan provisions related to the area of trafficking in persons fighting, security of the national traveling documents and other aspects that create the general background of the discussions on visas issue.
The EU experts informed the Moldovan delegation about the last evolutions regarding the Schengen aquis, and also the reforms that are elaborated in European institutions and that are aiming to adjust and optimize the common European consular service.
Within the dialogue with European experts, the delegation of Moldova solicited the support of EC and of the member states in order to offer EU a mandate for the initiation of talks on visa regime facilitation.
According to the press-release, EC delegation took into consideration the requests and arguments of the Republic of Moldova and expressed its availability to examine the received information and to continue the initiated dialogue.
Previously, the deputy minister of MFAEI, Valeiru Ostalep, declared for Info-Prim Neo that “Moldova will opt for a visa regime that would be as favorable as for the Balkan states”.
