According to European rankings, the Republic of Moldova takes the 20th position out of 47 states by the COVID-19 incidence rate, with 20 cases per 100,000 people during the past 14 days. The rankings are closed by Greece, Belarus, Spain, Russia, Portugal, and the UK, with the highest infection rates, Denis Cernelea, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, stated in a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

According to the official, 13.6% of Moldova’s population has been vaccinated with the first dose, plus 2-3% of the Moldovans who got vaccinated abroad. Some of the vaccine donations were rejected for the reason that the period of validity of the vaccines was the end of July or August, but the Ministry insists that this period should be at least September.

Denis Cernelea noted that Moldova during the past seven days had 411 cases of SARS-CoV-2, as opposed to 419 cases the previous seven days. 141 cases of the 411 or 37% of the COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Transnistrian region.

Moldova until now received over 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with almost 300,000 doses being now in stock. The Pfizer vaccine was fully used, while the AstraZeneca vaccine was used in proportion of 77%. The Sinovac vaccine was 60% used. A large part of the Sinopharm doses were storied at the National Public Health Agency and are to be distributed to the 535 national vaccination centers.
