Moldova is on the way to create a national mechanism for participating in a European mechanism for the exchange of information related to migration. The first regional seminar entitled “Pan-European Dialogue: exchange of statistical data and information regarding the migration” took place in Chisinau on October 26-27. This event’s purpose was to identify an efficient and systematic mechanism for exchanging data and information related to the migration in the pan-European space. The main subject of the discussions was focused on the gathering and carrying out the exchange of information related to the migration between the member states of the European Union and countries included in the EU Neighborhood Policy. Iulian Groza, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration stated at a press conference organized after the ending of the event that the establishment of a pan-European dialogue is of considerable importance, in particular as regards the efforts of Moldova’s European integration. It plays also a special role concerning the Plan of Actions Moldova-European Union that has a chapter apart related to the migration management. Moldova wishes not only the establishment of the cooperation regarding the exchange of information but also the harmonization of the standards for the exchange of data and information relating to migration. Simion Terzioglo, national program coordinator at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), mentioned that the phenomenon of migration must be taken into consideration in the context of the intention of Moldova’s European Integration. The respective problem is a big one, having the impact that the phenomenon of migration has on different aspects of life of the Republic of Moldova. Marina Manke, representative of IOM, stated in this respect that the states must make a dialogue as regards the process of migration, so the official statistical estimates to be very exact in this respect. The international experts attending the press conference informed that Moldova is the most prepared country to participate in the exchange of data and information regarding the migration. The event in Chisinau is part of the Pan-European Dialogue concerning the migration management, which is a multilateral platform for the dialogue between the member state of the European Union and the countries included in the EU Neighborhood Policy. This initiative was launched by IOM in January 2006 in Brussels.
