The national football team of Moldova lost the second match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying competition as well. Moldova was defeated by Serbia at home 0-3, IPN reports.
Filip Kostic opened the score in the 19th minute after captain Alexandru Epureanu, whose presence was in question owing to an injury, made a mistake. The fullback of Chelsea Branislav Ivanovic increased the difference in the 37th minute after a corner. Dusan Tadic set the scoreline in the 59th minute.
”This is football. Someone must lose. Today the Serbians were lucky,” Moldova manager Igor Dobrovolski told a news conference.
“The Moldovans started better the match, but we didn’t experience problems in this game after we scored the first goal,” said the coach of Serbia Slavoljub Muslin.
On October 9, Moldova plays at home Ireland, which recently beat Georgia 1-0. In another match of Group D, Austria and Wales tied 2-2.
