The situation in eastern Ukraine following the separatist November 2 elections became more dangerous for Moldova and the Moldovan authorities should immediately take measures to strengthen the security of the state. Such statements were made in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Former Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta said the pro-Russian separatists from Donetsk and Luhansk are the same separatists who existed in Transnistria 25 years ago. “After the so-called elections there, the situation became much more serious. There is a war situation in eastern Ukraine and we will witness new escalations in the two regions,” he stated.

“The armistice was only a matter of time. A lot of negotiations and discussions are needed for avoiding a war. The Russians do nothing but postpone taking a decision. The Moldovan authorities should immediately take measures to strengthen state security,” said Vitalie Marinuta.

Politologist Mihai Cernencu also expressed his concern about the created situation, saying it is dangerous for Moldova too. “The developments in Ukraine are alarming. Now Kyiv is trying to take countermeasures, but there are all the preconditions for the start of a new world war,” he stated.

Expert in ethnicity-related problems Victor Grebenshchikov considers that Moldova has not much time left for strengthening its security and recommended using the relations with Romania in this respect.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara said the Moldovans must understand that the situation is very serious and must leave the emotions aside when they cast their ballots in the November 30 elections. “Moldova is a small, young and weak state that can anytime be destroyed,” he stated.
