The national football team of Moldova suffered the second defeat in the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying rounds. Moldova was beaten by Austria in Chisinau by 1-2. This was the first match of the national team under the guidance of coach Alexandru Curteian, IPN reports.

Austria opened the score in the 12th minute from a penalty transformed by the guests’ star David Alaba. Moldova scored from a penalty kick in the 27th minute, with Alexandru Dedov equaling the score. In the 51st minute, Austria’s Marc Janko scored with the head as a result of a corner penalty. Eugen Sidorenco was close to drawing towards the end of the game, but missed the chance.

“Regretfully, we didn’t manage to achieve a positive result. It was an interesting game up to the last second. I’m convinced that we will play much better in the future,” Moldova manager Alexandru Curteian told a news conference after the match.

“We are very satisfied with the victory. Our game wasn’t the best because our opponents caused problems to us,” said Austria coach Marcel Koller.

On October 12, Moldova meets Russia in Moscow. After two games played, the national team ranks last in the group with 0 points.
