The Republic of Moldova joins the global event Earth Hour 2022. Every year, at 8:30 pm on the last Saturday of March, supporters in over 190 countries and territories unite, taking action on and raising awareness of the issues faced by the planet, IPN reports.

The goal of the event is to motivate the people to save electrical energy throughout the year and to change the behavior of people so that they become involved in activities to fight climate change.

Earth Hour is annually held internationally as a lights-off event. Landmarks around the world turn off their non-essential lighting for Earth Hour to sensitize the population to such environmental problems as the irrational use of electric power, which is one of the causes of the acceleration of climate change that has been more intensely felt during the past few years.

Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, is set to unite millions of people around the world to show solidarity for both people and planet. Taking place at a crucial moment in time, this year’s event invites people around the globe to unite in a moment of reflection on the relationship with each other and with the collective home.

For the first time, the event was celebrated in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. In Moldova, Earth Hour has been observed since 2008.
