The rejection by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the initiative to hold a constitutional referendum shows that Moldova is in a continuous degradation process and the protests are the only chance to stop this process. Such statements were made in the program “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

“The Government’s latest actions show that the Republic of Moldova is in a continuous degradation process. The way in which the CEC treated the initiative to hold a referendum to amend the Constitution is a hotter repetition. It is an action showing that an authoritarian regime was established and we are programmed for this degradation. The government treats us like a herd and does what it wants with us. It’s good that we assumed the right to revolt in the Civic Forum’s manifesto adopted earlier,” said political analyst Oazu Nantoi.

CEC member Stefan Uratu said this is not the first deviation by the Commission’s president Iurie Ciocan. “It was known beforehand that the CEC will reject the initiative of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”. The Constitutional Court extended the terms in office of the CEC members, which expired in February, on purpose. The parliamentary elections of 2014 had been rigged. Iurie Ciocan fixes the election outcome with the help of a computer connected to the electronic register of voters,” he stated.

Lawyer Pavel Midrigan considers that Iurie Ciocan serves the interests not of the people, but of a narrow group of persons from power. “The government did everything possible for the current composition of the CEC to be kept so as to hamper the holding of a referendum,” he stated.

Journalist Vasile Nastase, a member of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said the mass protests will be resumed. “We are preparing a large protest for April 24. Until then we will mount smaller protests at different state institutions, such as the Security and Intelligence Service, the police and the Prosecutor’s Office. We will demand that they stop serving those who captured the state and join the process of freeing the state from captivity,” he stated.
