Moldova is at a stage when we have to shift the focus from making to enforcing laws in agreement with European standards, President Vladimir Voronin told the Cabinet at its meeting on May 28, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of state briefed the Government members on the results of the meeting of Moldova-EU Cooperation Council and the meetings held with the European officials during his recent visit to Brussels. At the same time, the president set out new objectives for Moldova's European integration. Vladimir Voronin said the European official praised Moldova for its integration efforts. The country has proved that it possesses the capacity to achieve European objectives, noted the president, instructing the Government to draw up a list of persons who contributed in this direction to reward them with state distinctions. “The European integration is the strategic line Moldova must follow, and we have reached a political consensus on this. However I cannot say the same for other problems and issues”, Vladimir Voronin remarked. The head of state added that Moldova has entered a very important phase in the relationship with the EU. Moldova is about to start discussing the content and the general parameters of a new agreement with the European Union, and Moldova has to be ready when the negotiations begin. “A lot is up to us. We must show them that we have capacities and that the government they will be working with is able to achieve the set goals”, declared Voronin. European Commission officials accepted to pay a visit to Chisinau in July for talks on the content of the new agreement, announced the president, instructing relevant officials to be well prepared. The meeting of Moldova-EU Cooperation Council took place on May 27 in Brussels. Moldova was represented by President Vladimir Voronin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan, Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon, and Minister of Justice Vitalie Parlog. The EU was represented by Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, also chairman of the Cooperation Council and head of the EU Delegation, EU's Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Miszei, and Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for External Relations Hugues Mingarelli.
