The Public Associations of Veterans of the War for the Independence of the Republic of Moldova ask Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița to become involved in the promotion of the bill to amend legal acts for improving the social protection level of war veterans. Representatives of the associations ask for an audience with the Premier, Alexandru Cimbriciuc, the head of the Soroca representative office of the National Union of Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence , said, reading the joint statement of the public associations addressed to Natalia Gavrilița.
“We are confident that the requests of the war veterans are a priority and will be solved as soon as possible as time passes to our detriment and the life expectancy of our comrades declines. Some of them do not reach the retirement age. The defenders of this nation deserve decent living conditions. Many of the veterans didn’t enjoy such conditions, at least in gratitude for the sacrifice made and courage shown in defending the national values, the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova,” Alexandru Cimbriciuc told a news conference hosted by IPN.
By a Government Decision, there was approved the national action program for celebrating the Year of Gratitude to the participants in fighting for defending the independence and integrity of the Republic of Moldova. This provides for the revision of the normative framework concerning war veterans so as to increase the social protection level of war veterans and the members of the families of those who died in the line of duty. Under a decision taken by the Premier, a working group was constituted to review the normative framework concerning war veterans, which included representatives of the Public Associations of Veterans of the War.
“The group identified the pressing problems faced by the war veterans and formulated proposals for dealing with the submitted demands and the improvement of the quality of life of war veterans was stipulated in a bill that was sent to the Government for examination and promotion, but this hasn’t been examined so far,” runs the statement.
“We are now witnesses to the marginalization by the Government of the Bureau for Relations with the Veterans of the Government’s State Chancellery. The promotion of this bill was entrusted to the Bureau for Relations with the Veterans. We realize that it is not suitable for the government to have a bureau that defends the interests of war veterans’ said Radu Prisac, the head of the National Union of Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence.
On March 2, it was celebrated the 30th anniversary of the start of fighting for defending the independence and integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
