Moldovans will further enjoy visa-free travel within the Schengen zone. This is possible thanks to the fact that Moldova has been honoring its commitments, as shown in the 5th report on the monitoring of the EU visa-free regime published by the European Commission.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, among the recommendations made to the Republic of Moldova, which are correlated with the EU candidate country status, are the continuation of the information campaigns dedicated to the visa-free regime, clear division of the powers of the prevention authorities and the fight against corruption.

The European Commission recommends finalizing the harmonization of national legislation with EU legislation in the field of preventing and combating money laundering and increasing efforts to combat organized crime, including certain networks of organizing illegal migration and smuggling of goods into the EU, in close cooperation with the institutions of the European Union.

In the eight years of the visa-free regime with the Schengen countries, almost two and a half million Moldovans that hold biometric passports have benefited from it.
