The bilateral parliamentary relations between Moldova and France will be developed now that a memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed in Chisinau on the occasion of the visit paid by the President of the French National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet. The signing of the document shows once again that Moldova has sincere and reliable friends like France, which agree that Moldova’s future is in the EU, Speaker Igor Grosu stated in a joint news conference, IPN reports.

The Moldovan official noted that the activities of the parliamentary friendship groups will be extended. The parliamentary commissions will cooperate, primarily those responsible for foreign affairs, Europeans affairs and defense. There will be staged joint meetings and activities and the national legislation of Moldova will continue to be harmonized with the EU’s. “We undertake to step up our cooperation within the Delegations of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,” said Igor Grosu.

The Speaker said that France, alongside other countries of the EU, was sensitive to the processes in Moldova. “France has an important say in the European Union and I’m sure that this will be that advocate, that voice that will help us to persuade other friends in the European Union that Moldova deserves to have the accession negotiations opened. We realize what we need to do. We have a lot of work to do,” stated the Speaker.

For her part, the President of the French National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet said the Moldovan people have everything that is necessary to find the deserved place in the European family. “We will continue to support you on this path, including though assistance at legal financial, political levels. Throughout this process, we will stand by,” stated the French official.

Yaël Braun-Pivet noted that the progress in the process of joining the EU can be made by ensuring the efficient implementation of laws. The process is difficult sometimes, but we must make sure that the laws produce the expected result event if time is necessary.

After the news conference, Yaël Braun-Pivet took part in the plenary sitting of Parliament where she delivered a speech.
