The national football team of Moldova drew 1-1 a friendly match against Andorra at home, IPN reports.

The guests started the match courageously and opened the score through captain Oscar Sonejee in the 16th minute. The goal made the ‘tricolors’ mobilize. They immediately attacked Andorra’s goal. After missing several occasion, Alexandru Dedov tied towards the end of the first half. In the second half, Moldova tried hard to obtain the victory, but Andorra defended itself in an exemplary way and scored the first positive result after a series of nine consecutive defeat.

Thus, Andorra, which is considered one of the weakest national squads in the world, scored after a two-year pause. The last time it scored also in a friendly against Moldova.

“These matches are very important for us. The result shows that we are following the right path,” Andorra coach Koldo Alvarez told a news conference.

“The result is disappointing for us. We missed too many occasions for scoring. In parts, we didn’t concentrate maximally. We want to play better the next matches,” said Moldova coach Ion Caras.

Alexandru Grossu and Catalin Carp made their debut for the national team in this match.

It was the last preparatory test for Moldova before the September 6 game of the 2014 World Championship qualifiers against England.
