The first meeting of the Moldova – Eurasian Economic Commission joint working group was held in Chisinau on June 8. In the meeting, the representatives of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan and Russia and experts and representatives of the Moldovan business community discussed the start of the implementation of the memorandum of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Republic of Moldova that was signed in Chisinau on April 3, IPN reports.
Attending the event, President Igor Dodon voiced hope that the first meeting of the joint working group will generate concrete results for the Moldovan economy and business sector. He said that many of the problems and barriers that hamper the development of the commercial-economic relations between Moldova and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Commission could be already solved not only at bilateral, but also at multilateral level. Moldova could obtain the status of observer to this body at the meeting of the Heads of State of the Eurasian Union that will be held in Sochi in October. Also, the Republic of Moldova should cooperate both with the West and with the East.
Chairwoman of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s delegation Tatiana Valovaya said such memorandums as the one signed by the Eurasian Economic Commission and Moldova are efficient and contribute to the establishment of bilateral and multilateral commercial and economic relations.
Small Business Association chairman Eugen Roscovanu said the business entities do not need to make political statements, but need to sell their merchandize. “The small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the big ones should develop in both directions. Any country that has a well-thought-out policy maintains balanced relations with different countries,” he stated.
The leader of the National Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Moldova, former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said all the agreements signed with international organizations, either bilateral or multilateral, which bring benefits to the businessmen in Moldova are important.
President Igor Dodon signed the memorandum of cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission in Chisinau on April 3. This was signed despite the disapproval by the government of this initiative. The memorandum is not an international agreement and does not create rights and obligations regulated by the international law for the sides.
