The national football team of Moldova tied the last match of the first edition of the UEFA Nations League. The team trained by Alexandru Spiridon drew 1-1 at home with Luxemburg, IPN reports.

Artur Ioniță missed the biggest chance of scoring in the first half. After the break, Radu Gînsari transformed a penalty kick from Cătălin Carp. The halfback of Hapoel Haifa scored seven goals for Moldova during the past two years and a half and needs four more goals to reach Sergiu Kleshchenko’s record.

The Luxembourgian team tied in the 70th minute through Stefano Bensi. In the last minute, Eugen Cebotaru failed to score while being in front of the goal, while Moldova missed the chance of ending second in the group. Cebotaru replaced Alexandru Gațcan, who played his last match for the national team.

“It was a very big chance for us. Regrettably, we suffered a defeat in the first match against Luxemburg. I think we played rather well these six matches,” Moldova manager Alexandru Spiridon told a news conference.

In the other match of the group, Belarus beat San Marino away 2-0 and qualified for the playoffs of the UEFA Nations League D.
