Moldova, in this campaign and this Sunday, when runoff presidential elections will be held, will choose rather between submerging deeper and going up. Geopolitics remains topical, senior research fellow at the Kiev-based Institute of World Policy Leonid Litra stated in an interview for Radio Free Europa, quoted by IPN.

According to him, the geopolitical vote ranked second in this campaign at a certain moment, but returned to the top towards the end of the campaign. “Definitely, the geopolitical vote will influence the election outcome to a certain extent, possibly not to the extent witnessed during other years, because Moldova is too dependent, in a way, on the foreign policy, on the options it has – West or East. Owing to this, the vote will leave an imprint on the result,” stated Leonid Litra.

According to the researcher, if Igor Dodon becomes Head of State, he will have a bad start because he managed to make rather negative statements, which are rather bad for the relations with Romania and Ukraine. So, if he is elected President, his statements will not be forgotten in Romania and in Ukraine too.

Leonid Litra said that even if the people are disappointed with the politicians, Maia Sandu achieved a good score for a politician who started rather late and has a team that is being formed. The program presented by Maia Sandu, including the three priorities related to pensions, replacement of the prosecutor general and investigation of the theft of the US$1 billion, can restore the people’s confidence in the fact that this state pursues the goal of serving the interests of people too.
