The Republic of Moldova was authorized to export processed meat and eggs for consumption to the European Union. The amendments to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/405 of 24 March 2021, by which Moldova is given this right, were published today, IPN reports.

“The European Commission’s decision is very important and will contribute to achieving a priority national objective – to diversify the markets for the poultry producers of the Republic of Moldova. Also, the European Union’s decision shows that the national official control system implemented by the National Food Safety Agency is recognized by the European Union,” said the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

The process of obtaining the right to export the given products from the Republic of Moldova to the EU was a complex and long-lasting one and was preceded by a board exchange of technical consultations and information. Audit missions were conducted, both online and with the physical presence of European experts in the Republic of Moldova, who examined the compliance of the national system in a three-dimensional model, including the National Food Safety Agency’s capacities at the central and local levels and the way in which business entities comply with the EU requirements.

There are now 43 poultry units and about 227,000 individual poultry farms in Moldova at present. They together keep about 6 million fowl. Moldova’s 24 abattoirs for fowl annually provide about 45,000 tonnes of poultry, while the 12 egg collection centers annually gather about 253 million eggs.
