Moldova borrows another 10 million euros for construction of penitentiary in Chișinău

Moldova will borrow an additional 10 million euros from the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), in addition to the 39 million euros loan, in order to carry out the construction project of the penitentiary in Chișinău. The government approved the start of negotiations on an amendment to the agreement signed on June 13, 2013.

Since the signing of the agreement, the costs of the construction works have increased. According to the informative note of the draft decision,  inflation rates increased by 5.9%. The Council of Europe Development Bank accepted the loan amount increase offered to Moldova, thus the total amount will reach 49 million euros.

The new penitentiary will replace penitentiary no. 13 and will ensure new standards of safety, security and discipline, in accordance with European Prison Rules.
