NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that from political and strategic viewpoints, the Republic of Moldova belongs to the family of European democracies. The common interest is to do so that life in the democratic and thriving Europe and in safety is preferred by the entire population of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the language they speak at home, regardless of their political preferences, to any other variants offered as an alternative, IPN reports.

In a news conference given in Chisinau alongside Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Mircea Geoană said that the Republic of Moldova has engineering talent and a special innovation capacity. “We are disposed and determined to put them to good use together,” stated the official, noting that he invited Premier Recean to make a visit to the NATO headquarters.

For his part, Dorin Recean said that Russia’s war against Ukraine changed a lot the perception of security in Europe and the world. An increasing number of states realize that a greater effort should be made to strengthen defense capabilities.

The Moldovan official noted that Moldova’s intention is to step up the partnership programs with NATO and NATO member countries. “Our objective is to build an army according to the NATO standards, to have more exercises by which to ensure this interoperability with NATO and NATO member countries. The modernization of the security sector and development of the capacities are the priorities,” stated Premier Recean.

According to him, building a climate-resilient economy and society is another important dimension. “This new concept is increasingly important so that we have continuous growth in the prosperity of our citizens,” said Dorin Recean.
