The Republic of Moldova obtained the status of member of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies. It undertook to support the fundamental values stipulated in the founding document of the Community of Democracies, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
The process of examining Moldova’s application for membership ended on July 20 following a consensus reached by the 28 member states. Moldova’s accession to the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies points to the trust put by the member states in the actions taken by the national authorities for transforming the state by modernizing and democratizing the public institutions, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Moldova’s accession to the Community of Democracies will contribute to achieving an important objective of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, namely to promote peaceful inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. This will also contribute to the sustainability of the process of modernizing and democratizing the Republic of Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.
