The national football team of Moldova started the 2018 World Cup qualifying competition with a defeat. Moldova lost 0-4 in Cardiff to Wales, which two months ago reached the semifinals of the UEFA Euro 2016, IPN reports.

The goals were scored by Sam Vokes (38th minute), Joe Allen (44th), and Gareth Bale (50th, 90th+5, penalty). Moldova had no ball onto the goal in the match. “I’m disappointed because we made so many mistakes in this game,” Moldova manager Igor Dobrovolski told a news conference.

In the other matches of group D, Austria beat Georgia away 2-1, while Serbia and Ireland drew 2-2. On October 6, Moldova plays Serbia in Chisinau.
