Moldova awarded bronze at World Championship of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists

Moldova was awarded the bronze medal for nail modeling at the World Championship of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists. The chairman of the Hairdressers Association of Moldova (AFM), Maria Popescu, announced about this on a Monday press conference. Ms. Popescu has also won the bronze medal, within the same competition, for contributions to the activity of the World Hairdresser Organization. According to her, at this category, only Russia and Moldova have got good performances. Still the winners of such competitions are financially stimulated neither by the World Hairdresser Organization nor by the Moldovan authorities. Maria Popescu gave as example her own victory within the European championship, in 1977, for which the state’s leadership gave her an apartment. Now, she mentions, the champions of Moldova are not awarded at least with diplomas, in spite of the fact that they have covered all the costs for participation at this contest, about 1500-2000 euros. At the same time, AFM chairwoman mentioned the financial contribution of 121,000 lei, provided by RM leadership for creating a Beauty Center and a Champions Salon, which might be opened in a year and a half. Moldova was invited to attend the Beauty Contest „ChicagoMidwest”, held in Chicago, in March 2008. At the same time, at the championship of Moscow, trainers of many foreign countries were interested in training Moldovan youngsters, and the World Hairdressers Organization proposed to organize the World Championship 2012 in Chisinau. The World Championship of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists was held in Moscow on 1-4 July 2006 and gathered the representatives of 58 countries. RM was represented by 18 participants in the categories “hairstyles for brides”, “nail modeling”, “modern hairstyles for women”, “visage” and “body-art”. Until now, AFM got 5 medals, a silver one and the rest of bronze, 4 cups and 100 diplomas. The Hairdressers Association of Moldova has 140 members and was founded in 1998.
