Moldovans working in Russia make transfers representing de 30% of Moldova’s GDP, the manager of the Migration Service in Moscow, Konstantin Romodanovskii, noted.
Let’s compare, the amount of financial transfers from Russia made by Georgians represent 20% of the GDP of this country, and those from Tajikistan transfer money representing two annual budgets. He noted that losses of Russia because of non-payment of taxes by migrant workers amount to 200 billion rubles per year.
In this context, Romodanovskii showed against compact residence of migrants in Russia. The latter ones have to be set uniformly, avoiding their massive concentration in the same spot. Events of France showed the danger of such situation, he said.
The representative of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) reported that in 2005 the remittances transferred in Moldova by ordinary people being abroad, via bank system and transfer, represented 683,24 million dollars, being 23.4% of the GDP. The amount of money coming from Moldovans working in Russian Federation, transferred via bank system, is 40.6% of this figure.
Thus, according to BNM data, about 277,4 million dollars were transferred from Russia, representing a little bit more than 9% of the GDP, but this figure represent only the money transferred via bank system. There are no data on unofficial transfers.
Cristina Verdes, consultant of the Population Statistics Department within the National Bureau for Statistic, reported that data for the 4-th quarter of 2005 show a number of 428,700 Moldovans abroad. She noted that there is no statistic on the place the persons are, but it will be started soon.
According to unofficial data, between 600,000 and 1 million citizens of Moldova work, in the majority of cases they work illegally, abroad.
