Modernization of highways - a priority for the Government

Modernization and repairs of Moldova’s highways, as well as the ensuring of the energetic security and supplying with gases of country’s settlements will represent the priority tasks of the Government in 2007, asserts the Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev.
According to the PM, important financial sources will be allocated in this domain, both from foreign subventions and the state budget. At the first stage the Government will give priority to the finishing of repair works on the Chisinau-Leuseni highway, the reconstruction of the Chisinau-Comrat and Orhei-Rezina directions. In parallel, a modernizations plan of the traffic roads from the whole territory of the RM will be elaborated.
Head of the executive requested that the Ministry of Transports and Road Management establishes a plan, coordinated with the leadership of raions, which would include the stages of the modernization of roads. Also, till the end of the current year, the ministry should announce tenders for selecting the main participating agents. Tarlev declared that both local and foreign economic agents can take part in the works. On the other hand workplaces should be given firstly to Moldovan citizens.
About a month ago, President Vladimir Voronin mentioned that in order to re-launch the economic activity, at least 500 km of national highways should be built in the next years. Head of state emphasized the importance of continuing, in 2007, the project of reconstruction of Chisinau-Leuseni highway as well as the initiation of Chisinau-Comrat highway building.
Expenses for the roadwork could quadruple next year, from MDL 55.8 mln to 198 mln.
