A modern military base will be constructed not far from Chisinau, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi announced. According to the official, the military base will offer the National Army’s employees modern learning and training conditions and will house military equipment. The money for the purpose was allocated from the state budget, IPN reports.

The minister said the Republic of Moldova started a broad process of modernizing the National Army. Military equipment will be purchased and the working conditions of the service members will be improved. The military base that will be located close to Chisinau will meet all the European standards.

“Infrastructure will be put up there to enable to base a military unit in accordance with modern standards. I would like the civilians and the militaries who work in the National Army to enjoy decent working conditions. This will enable them to have training and exercise halls, stimulators. We want proper premises for storing the equipment we will receive soon. There will also be accommodations for the conscripts. Building a body of soldiers-sergeants hired based on contract is a priority for us. I would like the young people who come to work for the army to have where to stay after active day or night service,” Anatolie Nosatyi stated in the program “Résumé with Ileana Pîrgaru” on RliveTV channel.

According to the minister, the money for building the military base was allocated from the state budget and the infrastructure of the unit is projected to become available within five years.

“We are at an advanced stage. We completed the feasibility study. We are working on the designing of the infrastructure that will be built close to Chisinau. The construction will be built from zero, with state budget funds. This project will last for years as it is a capital construction project and the investments will be long-term ones. Technologically, we cannot do everything during a year as the infrastructure is rather extensive. Such projects usually last for three-five years,” said the minister.

The defense sector was earmarked 1.7 billion lei in the 2023 state budget. This is 0.55% of the GDP. The sum is by 650 million lei higher than in 2022.
