Forty modern biometric data capture devices are to be distributed to diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova. They were received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Public Services Agency (PSA), which noted that the process of issuing passports and new electronic identity cards will be significantly improved. The new documents will allow online access to public services through the qualified electronic signature, IPN reports.
MFA secretary general Mihai Mîțu said that the new graphic stations and the implementation of digital solutions will significantly reduce the processing time of documents and facilitate access to essential public services, no matter where the Moldovan citizens are.
"By equipping the consular offices with modern equipment and expanding the consular network, we ensure that the Moldovan citizens in the diaspora benefit from fast, efficient and accessible services," added Mihai Mîțu.
Public Services Agency director Mircea Eșanu said that, starting with March 31, 2025, Moldovan citizens abroad will be able to apply for the new electronic identity card, a modern and secure document, which corresponds to the standards of the European Union.
"With an identity card that will have the qualified electronic signature integrated our citizens abroad will be able to access online the public services provided by the PSA, without going to our counters," said Mircea Eșanu.
Each graphic station is equipped with high-resolution cameras, high-performance fingerprint readers and an electronic signature system, all connected to the information system of the PSA. Thus, the entire process of applying for and issuing identity documents will be digitized, reducing the waiting time and offering safer and more modern services.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that it implements measures to supplement the consular staff, relocate some consular sections and expand the consular network in regions with large communities of Moldovans. Also, the digitization of consular services includes the integration of MPower, MDelivery, Web Officiu ASP platforms and the installation of MPay terminals, facilitating access to fast and efficient services.
