The Ministry of Education’s administration next week will be questioned in Parliament about the violations identified during the Baccalaurean session. The hearings were requested by the Socialists and the proposal was accepted by a majority of votes of MP on July 13, IPN reports.

Vlad Batrancea said at least two major violations were discovered at this stage. The first is related to the composition of the three commissions responsible for the organization of the Baccalaureate exams – for working out tests, for grading these and for examining challenges. The three commissions consist of the same members and this is a serious violation. Also, the academic community established that at least the physics tests do not meet the scientific approaches.

The MP also said that the assessment model should be reviewed. So as not to polarize on this subject, the Socialists MPs accept to hold the hearings behind closed doors, but real solutions should be identified as a result of these.

President of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov said the Baccalaureate issue is a sensitive one because the same situation has been witnesses during many years, when about half of the students fail the Baccalaureate exams. The question arises as to the quality of education. Hearings should be held to identify solutions, together with the Government, so as to change the situation as it goes to a problem that affects a whole generation.

The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said the Baccalaureate exams should be annulled.

The head of the European People’s Party group Valeriu Giletski said the Baccalaureate exams should remain, but changes are needed. There should be implemented methods used in other states, such as taking of the exams not in a year, but in a shorter period.

According to the Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, the Standing Bureau is will decide the date and hour when the administration of the Ministry of Education will be question and if the hearings will be held behind closed doors or will be public in character.
