Ministry of Economy and Commerce will propose creation of industrial parks in Moldova’s development regions

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce will propose in the near future a legislative act on the creation of industrial parks on the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova, the minister of Economy, Igor Dodon has recently declared. According to him, the creation of industrial parks is very important in light of the fact that Moldova will soon become a neighbor country of the European Union. “Authorities noted the lack of industrial spaces for the investors of the Central Europe which have already expressed their willingness to reestablish their producing and service providing centers in the Republic of Moldova” the Minister declared. The new law will stipulate the creation of industrial parks in the development regions of Moldova, and the state, on its account and through private public partnerships will create the necessary infrastructure. The minister says that areas of 10-15 hectares will be selected and the state will ensure the road infrastructure, water supply and sewerage system, electricity and will give them to investors for certain production projects. Among the companies which are willing to create production centers in Moldova, Dodon mentioned the Italian footwear company “Geox” and the German companies producing electric wires for BMW and Mercedes. The minister declared that MEC counts on the transnational companies which intend to open production facilities in Moldova when it plans to create until 2009 about 300 thousand new workplaces and to increase the monthly average wage up to USD 300. Dodon declared this week that the interest of the transnational companies for the Moldova market is a result of the free trade regimes Moldova has with the EU and CIS members.
