Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, announced he was going to join the campaign staff of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) to support the pro-European referendum and Maia Sandu’s re-election bid. During this period, Spînu will either take a leave or seek a suspension, IPN reports.

“At these elections, I will be part of the PAS electoral team. I will be involved in the campaign, as will many of my colleagues, including ministers, and I urge the whole society to promote the referendum. When this campaign starts, I will either take a leave of absence, or I will suspend my duties”, said the minister.

The Electoral Code requires a list of government officials, including members of the Cabinet, to put their government duties on hold for the duration of the electoral campaign.

In 2021, Andrei Spînu suspended his duties as chief of staff to President Sandu to aid the PAS legislative campaign.
