The minimum due period necessary for offering the right to pension was reduced from 20 to 15 years. These amendments to the Law on social insurance pensions were recently made by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The National Correspondent of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Ala Lipciu told Info-Prim Neo that these amendments fully comply with the provisions of 102nd Convention of ILO on minimum standards of social security and of the European Code of Social Security of the Council of Europe. Moldova did not ratify the 102nd Convention, but through the ratification of the 12th article of the Social European Charter, it is indirectly linked to its provisions, which say that the signers of this European treaty are obliged to maintain the social security system at a proper level, at least equal to the one necessary for the ratification of the European Code of Social Security. According to the cited source, the Code is identical to the 102nd Convention and tackles the same social risks. The document stipulates the minimum standards, including the minimum due period of 15 years for the persons benefiting from the right to pension.
