The Ministry of Defense will have the right to test with a polygraph those who wish to join the military structures, as well as contract soldiers within the institution. The new provisions are included in a draft approved by the government on wednesday, IPN reports.
Polygraph testing will be conducted during investigations into actions that may constitute serious disciplinary violations. The military officer assigned to carry out the service investigation is authorized to propose to the commander (chief) the polygraph testing of the soldier.
According to Minister Anatolie Nosatii, this measure is intended for the state security structures and is a regulatory practice applied in other countries as well. The action will help evaluate the integrity of the individual in question and, accordingly, reduce the risks of leaks of classified information or state secrets.
The new provisions extend restrictions on enlistment in the military service by contract, as well as the grounds for discharge from service.
