MP of the Action and Solidarity Party Mihai Popșoi is critical of the initiative concerning the assessment of judges and prosecutors proposed by the current minister of justice. He said the related plans of the former government were thwarted and the external assessment they proposed could be replaced with an internal assessment of judges and prosecutors, meaning that “one hand washes the other one”. He voiced hope that his party will return to power and will continue the justice sector reform, IPN reports.
“Judging by the developments, the reform concept thought up by the previous government, that external assessment that was expected to contribute to the reformation of the justice sector, was completely frustrated. They no longer discuss an external assessment. They discuss an internal assessment for all the judges from the system to assess themselves and their relatives. This is regrettable, but we hope we will return to power after the next elections and will complete this reform,” Mihai Popșoi was quoted by IPN as saying in the Jurnal TV program “Shadow Cabinet”.
According to him, without an appropriate justice sector reform, foreign investors will not come to Moldova and the citizens will continue to leave the country in large numbers. Also, following the appointment of the prosecutor general, the case concerning the usurpation of power in the state will not reach the court.
Democratic MP Vladimir Cebotari said there were no reasons for the usurpation of power in the state this June. The Democratic government acted based on documents issued by the Constitutional Court. “This case has no prospects. Everyone realizes and admits this. The institutions weren’t blocked and they worked,” stated the politician, noting the relevant case was started by the Prospector’s Office by political order and lack substance.
