The additional powers offered to the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) are designed to ensure the state interests are protected and to prevent situations when the MPs leave their parliamentary groups for money, said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mihai Popșoi. According to him, the opposition should support the enlargement of the SIS powers as the corruption of MPs will be counteracted this way, IPN reports.

The head of the PAS parliamentary group Mihai Popșoi admitted that the justice sector reform takes place slower than the government anticipated, but said that the process hasn’t been blocked. The clans existing in the justice sector made a pact with the politicians who do not want the country to join the EU and put up resistance to the justice sector reform.

“The justice sector reform is the cornerstone of economic development. A businessman will prefer to invest elsewhere if they are nor firmly convinced that the justice system works. Yes, the reform does not go swiftly, but the process continues. We see the first results. The assessment of the SCM members produced results as only 20% of the candidates passed the assessment and this is a good result. This means that 80% were rotten. The resistance comes from here. The clans realized that our determination is firm and therefore try to sabotage. But they will not succeed. We adopted bills to overcome the situations of sabotage so as to be one step ahead of the saboteurs,” Deputy Speaker Mihai Popșoi stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.

According to the representative of the Party of Action and Solidarity, to cope with the attempts to destabilize the county, the government offers broader powers to the SIS. The package of laws on the SIS reform, which was given a first reading, enables the SIS officers to wiretap and bug without a court warrant if there are suspicions that state security is in danger.

“It is normal for the opposition to criticize as this is its role in a democratic state. But the opposition should appreciate these new powers offered to the SIS, which are designed to also prevent the chaos we are witnessing in the BCS group. Their MPs now allow to be bought as during the previous times, as the potatoes are sold at the market. They speculate on the sums offered to these MPs. The powers offered to the SIS should help prevent such cases,” stated Mihai Popșoi.

According to the PAS government, the three bills on the SIS reform will be further put up for public debates so that they are improved in accordance with the recommendations put forward by the Venice Commission. Later, the bills will be given a second reading by Parliament.
