Independent candidate for mayor of Chisinau Mihai Godea considers the explosion in which Igor Turcanu received injuries as a result of which he died in the hospital was a car trap attempt. Mihai Godea requested the prosecutor general and minister of the interior to immediately set up a working group that would investigate the case, Info-Prim Neo reports. “All the attempts to divert attention from plausible versions seem cynical and nonprofessional to me because a lot of pieces of metal were taken out of Igor Turcanu’s body, which did not come from the exploded car. This fact was confirmed by doctors of the Emergency Hospital,” Mihai Godea said in a press briefing. Mihai Godea said that Igor Turcanu, as other colleagues of his from the electoral staff, felt they were being followed. “In this campaign we witnessed threats and many dirty things that we did not make public because this is not my style. Certain preparations started in the evening of May 3, when I announced I will run independently. I phoned Minister of the Interior then. Alexei Roibu got involved. Other colleagues from our team were also threatened,” said Mihai Godea. He also said that after he defected from the PLDM, he was informed that a number of scenarios are prepared against him, including drugs in his car and firearms in the yard of his house. “I expected that things will clam down after the elections. I never thought that something like this can happen. No matter what conclusion the police reach, an attack was made on democracy and the people’s safety and the authors of this attack should assume responsibility for all the consequences. If this was a political order, poor Moldova,” said Mihai Godea. The candidate does not rule out possible economic reasons why the attempt was committed. He expressed his surprise that Igor Turcanu, who was always accompanied either by a driver or somebody else, was alone when the explosion occurred. Igor Turcanu headed the staff of Mihai Godea’s election campaign. He died in the hospital about three hours after the explosion.
