The head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu replied to the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin’s accusations that the local elections were rigged. In a news conference, Mihai Ghimpu said that everyone has the right to dispute the election results, but should provide evidence, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I do not see proofs. The Liberal Party does not see them either. I think nobody sees them. The argument that the difference of 4,442 votes shows that something is wrong is a Communist trick as usual. Would they have recognized the elections outcome if this difference had been in their favor?” the Liberal leader asked. Mihai Ghimpu urged the members of the Communist Party to comply as the democratic parties did in 2001 and 2005. “Vladimir Nikolaevich, subdue your desire and do not incite to revolution. The Communist and Socialist revolutions are over. The system is now based on the democratic values,” he stated. According to Mihai Ghimpu, the PCRM has never obtained power in a fair way, but only by manipulation and lies. In other election campaigns, they gave the voters parcels with food products, but now they gave them money, he said. Asked to comment on the PCRM’s announcement that the Communist lawmakers will boycott the Parliament’s sittings, Mihai Ghimpu said the previous experience of Speaker allows him to say that the legislature can work well without the Communists. But the Communist MPs are responsible before the people who pay them salaries. The Communist Party Tuesday filed an application to the Centru district court, whereby they request annulling the results of the second round of the mayoral elections in Chisinau and rerunning the elections. Over 200 voter complaints, observers’ reports and other confirmative documents were attached to the application.
