The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) every day keeps in touch with the European Commission and in June will transmit a new set of updates on the reforms done by the Moldovan authorities, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced in the Cabinet meeting, IPN reports.

The official noted that ten days ago, they passed on information about the implementation of the nine recommendations put forward by the European Commission. “We ascertained progress in a number of important areas, such as the justice sector, deoligarchization and democratic consolidation. The Republic of Moldova moved up to the 28th spot in international press freedom rankings released several days ago. This is significant progress showing that we can advance democratic consolidation on our European path,” said Nicu Popescu.

According to him, the transfer of the Chisinau International Airport back under state management and the conviction of Ilan Șor are proofs showing that the Republic of Moldova can accelerate the European integration pace by reforming the justice sector and strengthening democracy.

On March 3, it has been a year since the Republic of Moldova filed an application for EU membership. For the accession negotiations to be opened, the state needs to fulfill nine conditions formulated by the European Commission. The reformation of the justice sector and deoligarchization are the most important conditions of these. In autumn, the Commission will publish the “enlargement package” and the progress report on the Republic of Moldova.
