The messages released in the last few days in the public space by the authorities of the Russian Federation about alleged provocations by the Ukrainian armed forces targeting the central (Transnistrian) section of the Moldova-Ukraine border are part of Russia’s hybrid war of intimidation, according to press statements by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in response to allegations made by Russian official sources.
“The statements of the Russian side are baseless, made for the purpose of manipulating public opinion, while the security situation in the region is stable”, the MFAEI stated in a press release.
In relation to Moscow’s warnings to the United States, NATO and Ukraine that any action against Transnistria would be treated as a direct attack on Russia, the Moldovan authorities reiterate their attachment to the concept of an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.
“In this context, the MFAEI considers the February 24 statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to be provocative and reiterates the obligation of the unconditional and transparent withdrawal of Russian military troops and ammunition stocks from Cobasna from the territory of the Republic of Moldova”, said the press release.
