Moldova becomes the 26th country where Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has launched its missing child alert system Amber, IPN learned from a press release issued by the Moldovan Police.
Describing the modus operandi, the police said it will notify Meta with details for every missing child case, and the company will send out alerts to Facebook and Instagram users within a 100 mi/160 km range from the presumed place of disappearance. The alerts will remain active within 24 hours or until canceled.
“As a representative of the law enforcement institution that is directly involved in the search for missing children, I believe that the implementation of this alert system is very important”, declared Lilian Carabeț, deputy chief of the Moldovan Police.
Each year, about 800 children go missing in Moldova.
