The Republic of Moldova now has the most reformist prime minister that is most leaning towards the European policies in the past 28 years in the person of Maia Sandu. “It is a big chance to see how the Government will cope,” Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel. According to him, the fact that mistakes, disappointment and mistaken decisions existed earlier should not be an indicator that the current Government will also make mistakes, IPN reports.

“The EU no longer provides blank checks. As to the financial assistance, we said that we have money and want this to come to Chisinau as swiftly as possible, but particular conditions should be respected as this is what the citizens of the Republic of Moldova ask. The EU judges by results, no longer by words, political statements or declarations of intent. What counts is the facts and namely because of this the previous Government of the Republic of Moldova fully lost the EU’s confidence as it declared itself a pro-European party, but took decision contrary to the country’s European course and contrary to the undertaken commitments, contrary to the recommendations of credible European institutions,” stated the MEP.

Siegrfred Mureșan said the conditions for obtaining the macro-financial assistance of €100 million include free democratic elections and a multiparty system, adjustment of the electoral legislation to the recommendations of the Venice Commission, fighting of money laundering, investigation of the bank fraud and publication of the Kroll report on the bank fraud.

The MEP noted the circumstances made the development partners show support to the new Government led by Maia Sandu.
