The men’s national handball team of Moldova became the winner of the Intercontinental Challenge Trophy Championship held in Monterrey, Mexico. This competition is also named the World Championship among small countries, IPN reports.

Moldova scored victories in all the four games played in Monterrey. The team trained by Nicolai Gomeniuc and Iurie Popsa beat Australia (38-17), Mexico (29-22), Nigeria (35-33), and Uzbekistan (40-30).

“We have traditions in handball. We raised world and Olympic champions. I hope that these players until the age of 21 will make progress and will achieve even better results,” the president of the Moldovan Handball Federation Nicolae Piatac has told IPN.

This is the second success of the ‘tricolors’ this year. In January, they won the European Challenge Trophy Championship. Thus, the men’s national handball squad became the favorite for being named the Team of the Year in Moldova.
