Members of working groups for 35 chapters that are to be negotiated with EU to go to Brussels

The Republic of Moldova made significant progress in implementing the recommendations put forward by the European Commission, with an implementation rate of 94%. In the immediate period, working visits will be initiated together with the heads and members of the working group for the 35 chapters that are to be negotiated with the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said after the working visit paid to Brussels, IPN reports.

The official noted that while in Brussels, they discussed the actions that need to be completed by March 2024, emphasis being laid on the continuation of the justice sector reform and the deoligarchization process. “In Brussels, we also discussed with Lawrence Meredith, Director for Neighborhood East, Diana Jablonska, Head of Unit for Georgia and Moldova, and Thomas Hagleitner, Head of Unit for Western Balkans Policy and Regional Strategy. The European officials assured us of the European institutions’ support in our process of joining the EU,” stated Nicu Popescu.

On November 8, the European Commission recommended opening the accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine. The announcement was made by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who presented the EU’s Enlargement Report. A final decision concerning the opening of negotiations with Moldova will be taken in the European Council’s meeting of December 14-15.
