The members of the first Parliament haven’t requested any facilities from the state and the initiative of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Moldova has been received as the recognition of the merits of whole generation of politicians who laid the foundations of the modern state of Moldova. The statement was made at a press conference by Mihai Coscodan, member of the first Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Unfortunately, the manner in which the project was discussed has seriously offended us. Some politicians made declarations that defied common sense. Younger politicians, so pragmatic, should understand that historic and patriotic nihilism ruins the foundations of the country, especially of such a young country with lots of problems, like Moldova”, said Mihai Coscodan. According to the former parliamentarian, most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence had an advanced age and a hard living. At least 5 are working abroad. Only 20% of them are members of various political parties, but the rest are outside the political arena. “Some politicians’ declarations that we were controlled by a single party, PLDM, puzzled us. We only respect its leader for when he was still in opposition, he had promised to equal the rights of the members of the first Parliament with those of the other lawmakers and kept his word”, said Mihai Coscodan. Mihai Coscodan doesn’t want the issue regarding the status of those who voted the Declaration of Independence to aggravate the political conflict, as the whole society will be on the losing side. The draft law regarding facilities for members of the first Parliament was proposed by PLDM and debated during the Parliament’s last meeting of the spring-summer session. The PL and PDM factions didn’t support the project, which caused heated reactions. The Liberal Party released a press statement accusing Pantelei Sandulache, head of the Parlamentul 90 Association, of pursuing personal profits and subordinating the association, which reunites members of the first Parliament, to a certain political party. The statement stresses that Sanduclache and other leaders of the association are members of this party’s central political bureau. In turn, Pantelei Sandulache replied that many of the current parliamentarians are heroes with shady pasts, who feel distressed by the members of the first Parliament. He added that Mihai Ghimpu, the PL leader, had monopolized the national liberation movement. The facilities that PLDM wants to offer the first MPs include a pension of 25% of the lawmakers’ salary, free medical assistance, diplomatic passports and state funerals for those who pass away.
