The European Union intends to swiftly adopt a €1.8 billion Growth Package for Moldova, aimed at supporting investments and reforms that will accelerate the country’s energy independence, alongside the implementation of the already announced energy support package. These statements were made by MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Siegfried Muresan, who will be responsible for the negotiations, IPN reports.

“All these forms of support from the European Union, adopted quickly, show that Russia cannot blackmail as much as we can help the Republic of Moldova,” stated Siegfried Muresan.

According to the MEP, the EU's energy support package, announced by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, is aid designed for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who are once again suffering due to the Russian Federation's blackmail, as it decided to cut off gas supplies.

The package includes a €30 million non-reimbursable grant to ensure emergency interventions in the energy sector for the period February 1–10.

It is part of a two-year energy resilience program to help the Republic of Moldova free itself from energy dependence on the Russian Federation and provide people with energy at affordable prices.

“The European Union can only be secure and stable if the Republic of Moldova is also secure, stable, and energy independent. That is why our goal, as the European Union, is to help the Republic of Moldova break free from energy dependence on Russia,” the MEP wrote on his Facebook page.
