Given the internal transformations in Moldova, the country’s administration is determined to implement the justice sector reform in strict compliance with the recommendations of the foreign partners and by respecting the international norms and standards, President Igor Dodon said in a meeting held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with a delegation of members of the German Bandstand led by vice chairman of the Bundestag’s Commission on Security and Defense Fritz Felgentreu, president of the German-Moldovan Forum.

“I underlined the importance of a direct dialogue between the senior administration of Moldova and the foreign partners, which will enable them to obtain objective first-hand information about the events in our country,” stated Igor Dodon. He told the German MPs about the ambitious reform program that the Government of Moldova intends to implement and reconfirmed Moldova’s commitment to promote a balanced foreign policy, including by implementing the Association Agreement with the EU and fully restoring the strategic partnership with Russia.

In the meeting with Jan Hecker, adviser on security and foreign policy to the German Chancellor, President Dodon said Germany and other foreign partners play an important role in supporting the efforts to do reforms in the justice sector and to fight corruption in Moldova. He expressed his recognition for Germany’s contribute to the socioeconomic development of Moldova through different programs and projects to the value of €300 million implemented during the 28 years of independence. He also underlined the important role played by Germany in making progress in resolving the Transnistrian dispute, including under the OSCE Chairmanship held in 2016.

Igor Dodon also met with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who is to pay a visit to Moldova in May or June this year. He stressed the necessity of organizing a meeting of the bilateral commission for commercial-economic cooperation and a business forum before the visit so as to update the contacts and fully use the opportunities enjoyed by the two states.

In the meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Igor Dodon said the commercial and economic potential existing between the two states is not fully realized. He underlined the necessity of organizing a new meeting of the Moldovan-Azeri intergovernmental commission that hasn’t convened since 2012.

The annual Munich Security Conference is held during February 14-16.
