Meet Vladimir Țurcanu, capital mayoral hopeful

Vladimir Țurcanu is the chairman of the Romanian People's Party since August 2019 and he runs on behalf of the party in the local elections. He has a degree in journalism and communication sciences, graduating from Moldova State University. Since 1992, he has worked in several media institutions, holding positions as correspondent, editor, editor-in-chief, anchor, etc.

Between 2006 and 2008, Vladimir Țurcanu was a member of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council. Between 2009 and 2010, he was a TV development manager at the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), founded by the US Agency for International Development. Between 2010 and 2011 he was a media trainer at the Soros-Moldova Foundation. Then, he served as deputy director of a television station, as well as the editor-in-chief of a radio station.

Between April 2012 and February 2016, he was the presidential adviser for public communication and spokesman of President Nicolae Timofti. According to the candidate's website "In 2016 he resigned from the position of presidential adviser in protest against the inauguration, at night, in secret, of the Pavel Filip government".

According to the candidate's income statement, between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018, Vladimir Țurcanu, together with his wife, had incomes of over 612 thousand lei. The family owns three urban lots of land, a real estate property and three cars.

The PPR candidate said that it is necessary to develop the capital, which can be achieved by boosting the labor market, by initiating infrastructure restoration works and by attracting local and foreign investors. In his program, Vlad Țurcanu said that the efficiency increase of sanitation services of the City Hall can be achieved by outsourcing them. Additionally, in his platform, the candidate tackles the issues of smart traffic light placement, the development of the suburbs, the development of sports, educational and creative clubs for children and a better collaboration with Romania and Europe.
