The health system of the Transnistrian region needs 2 billion rubles (about 2.5 billion lei) to work in normal conditions. The region’s budget can yet cover only one fourth of this sum. The local press reported that the Transnistrian administration will try to optimize the costs, including by adjusting the prices of medical services provided for money, IPN reports.
In 2015, Tiraspol will allocate 526 million rubles (over 600 million lei) to the health sector. This is almost half of the sum projected by the responsible authorities from the region. About 70% of the allocated sum will go to pay salaries to the medical personnel.
Given the rising deficit in the region’s health sector, the Transnistrian administration decided to optimize the costs by leasing out the unused hospital areas and by adjusting the prices of medical services to their real value as they are much lower than the real costs.
The authorities in Transnistria anticipate that the incomes from the medical services provided for money in 2015 will represent about 10% of the expenditure in the healthcare system. A part of the costs could be covered from extra-budgetary sources, such as the common social insurance fund. During three years, money from this fund has been used to purchase a part of the necessary medical equipment.
