The 12th-grade history textbook is based on historical facts rather than interpretations, stated Valentina Olaru, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research, for IPN. According to Olaru, the book provides historical sources that allow for the development of critical thinking about historical events. This response comes in the context of criticism from the PSRM regarding the textbook, IPN reports.

"The textbook does not introduce new interpretations of history; rather, it highlights other historical truths, not just those promoted by Soviet historiography about Romania’s entry into World War II and the consequences of this war on the Romanian space", Valentina Olaru explained.

The education official also noted that this is the first contemporary history textbook to provide such a detailed analysis of Romania's administration during the war period.

"The textbook 'History of the Romanians and Universal History' for 12th grade, authored by A. Dolghi, A. Felea, N. Enciu, and A. Revenco-Birladeanu, reflects historical facts and presents much more information than previous editions," emphasized Valentina Olaru.

As of September 2024, 12th-grade students in the Republic of Moldova have received new textbooks for the subject History of the Romanians and Universal History.

The Socialist Party (PSRM) has criticized the new history textbook. During a press conference, member of the Parliament Alla Darovannaia stated that the textbook does not reflect historical realities but instead promotes the ruling party’s propaganda.
