Building a developed, resilient and competitive economy that would ensure economic growth and access to the internal market of the European Union was the main topic discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni at a meeting, IPN reports.

Premier Recean stressed that this year the Government will focus on promoting macroeconomic policies aimed to ensure stability and reforms, which would favor recovery and sustainable economic growth. In this connection, he expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the EU to Moldova, especially for the announced €250 million in financial support.

The Moldovan official informed Commissioner Gentiloni about the Government’s economic growth plan, based on concrete measures meant to support Moldova’s accession to the EU internal market. “We aim to develop an economic model aligned with the European one, focused on digitalization, innovations, energy efficiency and green economy, but also a favorable and predictable business environment,” said Dorin Recean, being quoted in a press release.

The officials also conferred on the Economic Reform Program 2024-2026, which was presented at the beginning of this year by Moldova, for the first time after it obtained the EU candidate status. Other topics included the Moldova Partnership Platformer and the annual organization of high-level ministerial conferences to mobilize resources, assess results and set new support priorities.

European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni encouraged the Government to continue implementing the reform agenda and assured of their support in this regard.

During the meeting, Premier Recean said that he expects a positive assessment of Moldova’s application to join the Single Euro Payments Area, which was submitted to the European Payments Council in January 2024, this being an essential step towards economic and political European integration.
